Finding specific duplicates

How would I go about finding duplicates with criteria based on just the file extension? I tried searching the entire database and it appears the a file 123.nef and 123.tif would show up in the result window when I only had one of each in the database. I would like to see a result that shows when I have more than one file with the same extension only. Hope this makes sense.

The Search function is agnostic to file formats. If you search both for the NEF and the TIFF, each will show up with a Match in the Result Window. Which is how it must be. Apparently the TIF and NEF are dupes.
If you want to ignore matches in TIFF format, just apply a file format filter to the Result Window.
Or search for copies instead of duplicates.

The automatic dupe search performed when ingesting files has a file format limiter.

Where would I find this? I don't see this under "categories". I'm sure I'm missing something.

This does not look correct.
The category with the shown name is used when IMatch converts a database from a version older than IMatch 2023 and finds files without usable timestamps. See TODOCheck Files Without Usable Timestamps or Time Zones for more information.

The name of the category IMatch assigns duplicates found during indexing can be configured under Edit menu > Preferences > Indexing. On the right side. The default of the category is DUPLICATES (or something similar, depending on the IMatch user interface language used):



Please check there. Is the wrong category selected?

I see neither a duplicates category (deleted?) and no category is checked.
Just create a category you would like IMatch to assign duplicates to and then enable it in that list.
If you now add some duplicate files to your database (e.g. by copying & pasting in Windows Explorer), they should be assigned to the category created/checked.

I have no idea why IMatch defaulted for your database to use the DateTime category usually only ever used once, during migrating the database from pre-2023 versions. How long do you use IMatch 2023? Did you recently upgrade a database to IMatch 2023?

Sorry for the confusion. I originally checked the box in the image below because I did not see the option to check a duplicates box option. I never knowingly deleted the Duplicates category.

Okay, I added the Duplicates category and it works perfectly. I've been using IMatch 2023 since September 2023. I upgraded to the latest version on 2/14/2023.

The DUPLICATES category is created for new databases when the user enables the corresponding option:



If the user enables this option, the automatic check for duplicates in the same format is enabled.

For databases which existed before this feature was introduced, the user has to enable the option under Edit > Preferences > Indexing and select a category to assign duplicates to. If no category is selected or the selected category is later deleted by the user, no check for duplicates is performed automatically when ingesting files.
