Where are Variable Functions listed/documented?

I understand generically what these are (modifiers to variable values) and how they work. And they are mentioned in various places throughout the help.

BUT: I've been searching for a list and haven't found such a thing.

I'm pretty sure I saw a "replace" variable function used in a help image, but can't find it.

Any hints appreciated!

My specific use case: I have old images with aperture (F number) stored as "F2.7" and need to strip off the "F" before copying into the normal metadata location.

THANKS!

When I search for replace in the IMatch Online Help, the first entry in the search results is Variables.
This is the help topic that explains all about the unique IMatch variables, their uses and the formatting functions provided.

Opening the TOC (table of contents) on that page with <F2> or doing a <Ctrl>+<F> to search for replace in the browser leads initially to many examples demonstrating the use of the replace function in various situations and then to the documentation of the replace:This==That function itself and it's sibling functions replacefirst:This==That, replacelast:This==That and pereplace:This==That.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks heaps!

Sure seems obvious, now that I know that. FWIW, the hard part is for those who don't already know.
  • I saw "variable functions" described somewhere in the help. Went looking
  • I made it to the variables page.
  • Didn't see any explanation of variable functions. Did see the top level description of {variable|arguments}.
  • Searched for "arguments" on the page and looked at several... which seemed to be detailed descriptions for various kinds of variables
  • At that point, I gave up on that page and tried looking elsewhere

Obviously, if I had kept going, OR knew to search that page for a specific function (I didn't even know for sure I was looking for "replace" at the outset), OR knew that "Formatting Variables" is the title/header for the page section on Arguments... I likely would have not asked this question  ;D )

Minor suggestions
  • Rename "Formatting Variables" to "Formatting variables (arguments and functions)" or something like that.
  • In the syntax section at the top, convert the content "arguments" into an anchor-link to that section of the page.
  • (I highly recommend a book "made to stick" -- orange cover w/ fake duct tape. Great suggestions and insights... helps explain why usability testing drives SW Devs bonkers so often, among other things. LOL)

Just a suggestion.  Each time I search the IMatch help to learn something once I find it, I bookmark it to my Docs > IMatch Favorites Bar folder in Edge so I can find it again if have a need to.

I think it is impossible to make the IMatch help, the automatic and manually curated TOCs and indexes to work in the way that every user is happy and finds stuff immediately. Google and Bing index the IMatch help, so there are two additional options.

When I look at the TOC (<F2>) on the Variables help page (and use Ctr+F to search), I see a sufficient amount of information about formatting variables.
