Hello i would like to assign categories or keywords (i see no differences as categories are keywords too).
i have tried to use the person editor window with show details on but when i fill the categories r keywords field with a copied one i can not save it (the save button does not update the field).

Any advice ?

You can only use existing categories for persons. The Person Editor cannot create categories on the fly.
After typing in a keyword, press <Enter> to add it. It will show as a blue button. Keywords are free text.

For categories, type text to find an existing category, then select an category from the list by clicking it. It will show as a blue button.

Categories and keywords are indeed quite different. You can use them for the same purpose. Keywords are stored in the metadata in your images, categories are not. Categories can deal with formulas and data-driven categories can automatically organize your files in a myriad of ways.

Hello.

Thank you for your answer;
The problem remains because the person editor does not show me a list of categories to choose whatever i type in it.
The field keywords is ok but i do not want to create keywords that are not categories to have a stable hierarchic structure.

Strange ..

Hello.

It is ok now : i had to import my data base into the thesaurus .
Now i can find existing keywords that i assign to the person i want.
The categories field still does not list keywords but it may be a preset. It would be redondant anyway.

Categories and keywords are entirely different.

The category field will never show keywords and vice-versa.  You could decide to make categories that are the same as your keywords but that would be redundant.

The categories field makes suggestions from categories when you type. The categories you see in the Categories View and the Categories Panel. Only writable categories (categories files can be assigned to) are suggested when you search for categories in the Person Editor. This excludes all data-driven categories (e.g. @Keywords) and sealed categories.

The keywords field makes suggestions from your thesaurus when you start typing.
If your thesaurus was empty, it could not make suggestions before. But the thesaurus is usually never empty, since IMatch automatically fills it from a standard controlled vocabulary for new IMatch installations.

That is the next thing i was wondering : Why is my thesaurus not updated?
I did create some keywords for new personnes and they did not appears un the thesaurus automatically.
I had to assign the keyword to an image first (or it would not appear at all) and then open the thesaurus and then import from database each time..
There is maybe an automatic fill to set on in the parameters ?

The thesaurus is supposed to be a controlled vocabulary - a curated set of keywords to choose from.
IMatch by default does not add new keywords to the thesaurus. Usually adding new keywords to the thesaurus is a controlled act, when a user actually wants to extend his controlled vocabulary with new keywords.

It is not uncommon to occasionally add keywords not in the thesaurus to an image, e.g. to describe a specific thing. But, usually, you don't want such used-once keywords clog up your thesaurus over time.

This is why IMatch does not add new keywords to the the thesaurus automatically.

As described in IMatch help, you can make IMatch automatically add new keywords (usually you want to have this off once your vocabulary is built) see Options,

(IMatch 2025 screen shot with the new menus. Your menu will have the same command, just look different).

You can add individual keywords to the thesaurus via a keyboard shortcut or a menu command: The Keyword Context Menu (the same works in the Metadata Panel for other tags, the thesaurus is not limited to keywords, after all).

And when you add new keywords in the Person Editor, there is even an option:

to force new keywords into the thesaurus.

Hello.

Thank you, it is very clear now.
As for me considering that i create keywords only in keywords category n a hierarchic order and very carefully i have set on the option add automatically new keywords to the thesaurus.
i wonder if a keywords is the automatically deleted as well because i have some old keywords i have to delete ..
Good to see there will be an update in 2025 .
Will it be free for the people having already a license ?

All the best.

Mario

Quotei wonder if a keywords is the automatically deleted as well because i have some old keywords i have to delete ..
No, keywords are never automatically deleted. Use the Thesaurus Manager to clean up your keyword hierarchy and optionally apply your changes also to the entire database.
