I cannot find the " standard  File Window layout attributes" that show the duplicates side by side showing files size, Date & Time, and Dimension differences for duplicates.  The Help menu says the below.  If someone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

The Best File Window layout for Duplicates
The standard File Window Layout Result Window for Duplicates uses the special File Window layout attributes:
  • File Size Difference (Result Sets)
  • Date & Time Difference (Result Sets)
  • Dimensions Difference (Result Sets)

This was introduced a number of versions ago. You can either re-import the standard File Window layouts again if you did not at the time, or you create the layout yourself, based on the description in the help system. It's simply this:

Header shows file name and date time as per usual. Then

Image4.jpg

which is helpful to figure out which version of a file to keep by date and size. Note also the dedicated commands in Cleaning Up Duplicate Files Quickly

Mario:

Thank you.  I re-imported them from the reference you made in August of 2023.  Thank you!

Mario:

One last question on the duplicate window.  I am searching for Binary duplicates. Atch 1 shows the original and two duplicates.  When I look to see if the Original has been assigned a category (it shows no category assignment, yet I know it is assigned to "Mike".

I attached the 2nd attachment to show that when I go to that original image it was assigned to the category "Mike". In the search results shouldn't it show me which categories the Original is assigned to?

The reason I'm asking is that I may decide to keep the duplicate image that has category assignments and delete the original.

Does that make sense?

Thank you!

You have no file selected in your first screen show, so the category panel will now show anything. Click on a file first.
Or modify a File Window Layout to list category names.

I must be doing something wrong.  I tried many searches and I'm unable to select the top image.  I can select the bottom image (see attached) and when I do a yellow box highlights the selection and I can see the Metadata and the category assignments in the category and metadata panel.  However, when I try to click on the top image there is no yellow box surrounding the image and the Metadata panel is blank when I try to select the top image.  It's like the top image is not selectable.  Do I need to turn on something to allow me to select the top image so I can see the category assignments??

Thanks!

If you activate "Include originals in the results", the original is handled as any duplicate found, i.e. displayed at the same level. Only then you can also select the original file. See also Including the Originals Alongside Their Matches.

Excellent!  Thank you very much.  I knew it was something simple I was missing.  I'm assuming the first one on the left is always the original.  There are no side effects I should worry about when deleting the original is there?  (I am checking the Keywords and category assignments to make sure they are the same before deleting the original.

Thank you Thrinn!

QuoteI'm assuming the first one on the left is always the original.
From the help topic kiwilink linked to: If you sort by Similarity, the original always sorts to the top and shows as the first file.
