Issue with Special Characters in Metadata When Importing to PhotoPrism

Hello

After a long time of dumping personal photos and videos into my drive I finally got myself to organize all that mess. I want to use PhotoPrism to manage my collection, so I thought I would try to make it work from the beginning.

Started assigning metadata to the photos with exiftool (in Windows) and went to import the first album to PhotoPrism, and here the issue arose. Filenames and metadata sometimes contain special non-english characters.

Well, all those special characters were unrecognized (I guess?) and were displayed as ? in the title and in the description (using the default settings in exiftool).

I assumed an encoding was the issue and, after looking into exiftool documentation, I found out it uses UTF-8 charset by default. I tried using Latin charset and it correctly displays the contents of Title, ImageDescription continues to show.

However, if I edit the metadata directly in properties window from the explorer (details tab), all characters are displayed correctly in PhotoPrism, both title and description.

I had understood the Windows uses Latin charset, so I am not sure where is my mistake. It may be wrong to post this here, as it is not technically a PhotoPrism issue (by the last paragraph), but it is not an exiftool problem issue either.

Can you shed some light into it or point me out in the right direction to keep looking it up? I am all out of ideas.

Mario

What is PhotoPrism? Never heard of it. Are you in the wrong user forum?
