Renamer Unique Numbers

I would like to request that the  Renamer can check for duplicates in the designated target folder for use with the Copy and Move options as I can see this would be of greater value than the way it works at the moment whereby it only checks the source folder.

This refers to my post here

To clarify:

The Renamer ensures that no duplicate file names are produced. But when you use the additional options to Copy of Move files using a Copy/Move step, it does not also search the target folder(s) of these operations for potential duplicate file names. This could become very complicated and probably slow too.

But it does check the target folder. When a duplicate is found it tells you this by saying  Error, a file with this name already exists.

Windows can do this and I would have thought it would have been easy for IM too.

You mentioned that Copy and Move steps are not that often used. I would suggest they are used more often than you think  e.g.

You have an import folder to hold images prior to them being renamed and copied or moved to the final destination folder. This folder may already contain 10s or 100s of existing files.

Sure. But if you use a good naming schema, you won't up end with duplicate names firsthand. Your feature request is only for situations where a user does not use a stringent naming schema, and uses a Copy/Move step and the target folder for the additional Copy/Move step already contains files with the same names as the one produced by the Renamer in that session. In this case IMatch will not detect the existing file name during the initial checks and report an existing file later on.

5.1.14 now also checks the target folder for Copy steps (Move was already checked). If the target folder of a Copy step contains files which would lead to duplicate file names, this is now automatically considered when producing the file names during the rename.

Look forward to trying it out thanks.
