Transfering categories

Due to other priorities I have been away from Imatch for more than a year and I would like use the opportunity to congratulate Mario for having managed to significantly improve Imatch's speed, which was for me in the beginning of Imatch 5 probably the single most important point against it.

But the purpose of this message is also to ask for advice. In a database of some 30 000 images, 2500 got category Transport. I worked with a copy of that database and suddenly noted that category Transport had disappeared. Surely my fault somewhere, trying to manage the same database in Ligtroom in parallel.

I still have the original photos with the Transport category, but I need advice on how to transfer the category to the new database. Simply copying the photos would be the easiest, but they are spread out over several folders and the folder names have changed.

Thanks

Mario

I'm not quite sure about the "suddenly noted that category Transport had disappeared."

Do you mean that the category "Transport" is no longer available in the Category View in the other database?
Or have all files assigned to that category also been removed from the database?

If only the Transport category has been accidentally deleted, you can use the Category Export in your original database to export the category and file assignments to a file. Then import that file into your other database. IMatch re-creates the category and re-assigns the files.

See Category Export in the IMatch help index for detailed information.

Thanks Mario, you haven't lost any of your response speed.

The Transport category was still there, but empty. But I hadn't yet made a lot of progress with this project and because the Transport category is still undamaged in the original database, I prefer to start from the basis again.

But the potential and flexibility of the category tools are mighty interesting.

Thanks and best regards

Mario

Indeed.
And if you have not yet looked into advanced category features like formulas, Alias categories or data-driven categories, you will find that these features can make things 'possible' and safe you a lot of work as well.
