Mario,
I see many enhancements in 5.7.2. Looking forward to using it.

There must have been a lot of time spent making these changes. I expect (and hope) that this upgrade will require some payment.

I particularly like the portability changes very useful for me.

Have you thought of licensing IMatch by module? i.e.,Have you thought of releasing this as a separate paid module for users who would use portability feature? Those who don't need it and are happy to manually make the changes (ugh!) have one kind of license those who need it have another, slightly more expensive license.

This model could possibly be applied for other features... Print module etc.

Are you a shareholder of Mario's company?  ???

Mario

IMatch 5.7 is a regular update and thus free of cost.

It's just that some features I have worked on are rolled out this time. And since it is a lot and some substantial changes are included, I upped the version to 5.7 to make that clear.

The new release notes system make it much easier for me to document all changes - and hopefully for users to read them. My impression was that many users never bothered to look up the release notes in the help system and thus may have missed tons of cool new things.
Linking the release notes next to the download and the new formatting may improve that.

IMatch AnywhereTM, which is planned to be released next month, is a separate product and will be sold separately. There are license types aimed at private home users (SOHO) and licenses aimed at corporate and institutional users. I also plan to offer a discount for users who already have an IMatch 5 license.

When I release the next upgrade for IMatch 5 there will be an upgrade free, as usual (see  http://www.photools.com/shop#a_upgpol) for more info about updates and upgrades). I'm fair but I cannot do all this for nothing.

@bonsai

There are no shareholders in my company. There is not even a company. I develop and support IMatch in my spare time.

Aubrey's questions and suggestions are valid. In fact many IMatch users understand that I spend thousands of hours each year with developing and supporting IMatch - and that it is only fair to charge for it, once in a while. Other users always complain. That's how it is. At least IMatch is no subscription and will not stop working when you don't pay for the upgrade.

Bonsai,

I expect your comment was "tongue in cheek" !  :D

I simply think that the software is excellent, and paying less than 1/2 of LR 6 upgrade a year seems to me to be too cheap for the quality of software and support that is provided.

I currently recognize that working with IMatch every day, I didn't miss (aside this 2-3 things I already mentioned) any more stuff (but be always happy if there is something new to play with ;-) and have no problems. I also use it as a real DAM-Solution (Music-Database; File-Database for working with QuarkXpress and for online, ...). For this, how many hours a day I use IMatch and what I payed for, it is a really cheap product.  :D

You are right Aubrey, that was a joke.  ;)
But it seems you are the only one who got it.
Anyway...

@ Mario
No reason to be pissed. I know that there's no company behind you and IMatch. And that you nearly spend ALL your sparetime for this project. And you are doing this great, I've never doubt it!
It's normal and fair to pay for a new major version, I see no problem. And to have different license types of IMatch Anywhere for private or corporate use is fair as well.
Conclusion: A great program with great support.
And btw a very helpfull forum here. But it seems it just lacks a little bit sense of humor...

It depends.
There are different kinds of humour out there.
Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

I assumed you were making a joke but I was not sure either.

It was impossible to be sure from the tone of your comment or the icon you added. Remember: Many of us here are not native speakers and our English is basic.

Tip: The next time use  the ;) or  ;D emoji indicate that you are joking.
