Hm, I see, a watch is also an interesting possiblilty, also, because we can use it for other things as well.
I had seen just now (by coincidence) a report about "Fenix 5 X", what say, it is a very good watch, but the weakest thing is the GPS-part (slow and not accurate).
Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

The most extensive testing I've ever seen on the Internet is by Ray Maker on his blog https://www.dcrainmaker.com. His review of the Fenix 5 series with regard to GPS accuracy can be found at: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/03/garmin-fenix5-5s-5x-review.html#gps-accuracy. His testing which is trying to use a more scientific methodology with side-by-side comparisons with other devices on the same routes at the same time concludes its GPS is pretty good. I've seen some people having unrealistic expectations in UltraTrac mode, and that mode is clearly a compromise to achieve more than 2 non-stop days of recording. The thing I don't like about the new Fenix series is you only get WiFi in the sapphire versions. I've also had a TomTom Runner which is under $100USD and had terrific GPS accuracy. Not so feature rich for multi-sports use, but solid for running and recording tracks.

To bring this back to the map panel: I do try to sync the camera clock on occasion, but sometimes forget. Taking a picture of the time displayed on your GPS source (watch or phone) gives you a record of this offset. Today I have to first use the "Modify EXIF Date & Time" tool to correct before using ECP (https://www.photools.com/community/index.php?topic=5797.0 to set coordinates from a track. Building this into the map panel would be nice. I'm guessing Mario is looking for users to brush up on their JavaScript and make refinements like this happen.
