Calling Apps from within the viewer - now doable?

With the new scripting system I wonder if one could make it possible to have apps called from withing the viewer(via favorites).

If calling an app from within the viewer would perform a select current image (as can be done manually by pressing Ctrl-G) before calling
the app much could be done.
Or maybe some special calls which let an app detect that it was called from the viewer - and react appropriately.

(Since batch processes and renamer can be called with the current file I have hope that it may also be doable with apps)
