The ability to read .afphoto thumbnails is a real boon to those of use using this very promising new alternative to Photoshop.

I have just rebuilt my iMatch database after reading your documentation concerning location of the database file with respect to the image folders (they should be on separate disks). It took a couple of days to ingest 22000 files but the rewards in speed and reliability are worth it.)

I have tried every digital asset management software I could find. Nothing comes near iMatch once it is correctly configured. (I have no affiliation with Photools or Affinity, other than as a satisfied paying customer.)

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

The database can be on the same disk, but must be outside of the folders you manage with IMatch. Else IMatch's file system monitoring will be triggered too often, causing a lower performance.

Yikes. A couple of day (!) just to ingest 22K files? That's ridiculous.
Even if your RAW files are large this should take about 6 hours. Assuming only 1 file per second can be processed.

Did you keep a log file of that session so I can see the times? Or maybe force a rescan of some files to produce a new log file I can look at?
Which type of files are you processing? Are your files on an exceptionally slow network? Or several hundred MB each?

Panic not. It took a couple of days because I added folders one year at a time (2000-2017) because I had to identify one corrupted file that was choking iMatch. Once I found the file, I converted it to DNG and it worked.

On my end  neither Windows no Imatch show Affinity Photo thumbnails. But I am using the latest customer beta , not sure maybe it's the reason.

Would be nice to have Krita files thumbnails too . Krita is open source and should allow to do it  I bet.

Mario

Affinity installs a thumbnail handler. Make sure you match the bit-ness (64-bit Affinity and 64-bit IMatch).
Maybe the Beta has no thumbnail handler yet. I suggest you ask Affinity support.

Never heard about .Krita files. What are these for? You can add any file format to IMatch as a user-defined file format.

Have just tried release version of Affinity Photo.  It does ok thumbnails, both for Windows and  iMAtch.  So it's rather an omission in Customer beta probably.

As of Krita I meant .kra files.  The native file format for Krita https://krita.org/en       Pretty popular open source  soft for hand painted illustrations and textures.  Probably more popular now than Corel Painter.           I see its thumbnails perfectly fine  in Windows  but not in iMatch 2017.9.6

Mario

First install an up-to-date version of IMatch (2017.12.2) and then retry to see your .kra files. If they install a working thumbnail handler, Windows should be able to deliver them to IMatch.

About Affinity and IMatch:
My Affinity files are located on a network drive and I disabled the thumbs.db ( thumbnail generation of windows for network drives).
Therefore I don't see a preview or thumbnail(except for the Affinity logo).

I have the current versions of IMatch and Affinity as well as both as 64 bit versions.

Mario

Quotend I disabled the thumbs.db ( thumbnail generation of windows for network drives).

If Windows is not allowed to create thumbnails, IMatch cannot create them either (for the affected formats).
