Currently when we import a metadata template file it adds the imported metadata templates to the ones that are already there.  I believe this is good but it would be better yet if there was a checkbox option to completely replace the existing metadata templates with the ones being imported.

The default is chosen to never delete data.
I think if a user wants a complete replace, he can just press <Del> a number of times to delete his existing templates before importing new ones.

Maybe I'd better explain my reasoning here.

I primarily use metadata templates to add GPS and other location information to photos which were taken in known areas where I tend to take a lot of photographs.  As a result I can end up with hundreds of such locations, and to keep them organized I like to group them by region.  So for example if I leave Iowa to go on a shoot in Minnesota I can replace my normal location templates with the ones for Minnesota.

However it not a big issue for me if it's not practical to do this in IMatch because I'm doing this now with Lightroom presets.  In Lightroom I can quickly delete, replace, or add to existing presets by simply moving them in or out of the Lightroom presets folder.  I was just hoping I could do something in a similar way with IMatch so it would be one less thing I'd need Lightroom for. ;)

Thanks for giving me some insight in your workflow. Such information is always important for me and may very well lead to some changes in features like Metadata Templates. Adding a "merge/replace" selector dialog box is no big deal, really.

BTW: Locations could also be used for the same purpose.

I like using locations when I want to use a map to find a location.  For most of my known locations I've already done this, so a metadata template works better for me in those situations.

Thanks Mario. :D
