color coding from categories

My color coding from categories (Who, What where, When) is not working in 2018. The database was working fine with 2017.
Is there something new in 2018? I've looked at the help file and I don't see any changes.

Where does it not work?
I use color-coding in all my databases and I don't see any problems.

Attached is a screen of 2017 and the same screen in 2018.

One can clearly see that there is no category color coding in 2018.

I will reconvert the 2017 database and see if there is any change.

I took a copy of 2017 database and loaded it in 2018 and color coding reappeared. Strange.
Is there an over riding switch in Edit|preferences that I might have inadvertently touched?

The display of category colors in the file window only depends on whether or not the layout shows the category bar.

In my case:
Direct assignment of the color to the category works OK
It will not propagate to the children.

I moved file AOC_D300_110918_23029 to category Colorado, all other images are children of Colorado - they do not have a color assigned.

It looks like just a problem with my current database. I have a 2017 backup, which if I convert to 2018 appears OK (this database does not have all changes made over weekend  - sigh!)

I notice a thin red line across the top (corresponds to color coding) - this is new in 2018. Need to read up on this.

Let's move on, some gremlin that is isolated to my setup.

The category colors displayed for a file in the File Window depend on the categories to which it is assigned.
When you set a color for a parent category, this color is not automatically used by the child categories. You need to enable the color-coding for each child category and set it to inherit to make it inherit the color of the parent color. You can also color-code categories but hide the colors from the file window via these options.

This feature has been added quite a while ago. If the folder/category has active color coding, the color is shown in form of a little bar directly under the file window caption.

My screwup - I was working in categories rather than keywords

The special @Keywords category supports color-coding as well. This is in fact a very important workflow and quality-control feature.
