Telemetry - Some Interesting Facts for You!

As I had hoped, I have learned a lot already from telemetry.

Notes:

+ Only two days have passed since the release of IMatch 2018.11.2, the first version with telemetry.
+ Only a small number of users has installed the latest IMatch version yet. It can take many weeks before all 2018 users have updated. And many users are still on the 2017 version!
+ I'm building the analytics end of the telemetry (the code that analyzes the data and produces something that can be understood by a human being) as I go - this is all new for me as well.

However, my new Telemetry app already has some very useful statistics to look at. Here is a screen shot of some of the charts I get.

Interesting! Looks like my hardware (desktop and laptop) is about in the middle (not a surprise)...

Cool!
Thanks, Mario, for sharing.
And what jch2103 wrote, is that, what I tried to say in other threads.  ;D
Also for users some things of this telemetry is interesting, one tends to compare yourself with other users.  8)
Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

Yes. Very very interesting, and I offer applause to you Mario for implementing so well this behind-the-scenes part of IMatch.

To echo Markus's point (and assuming you will continue to give us occasional summaries of the statistics, as here)
I too look forward to 'interpreting' the charts to see in general how typical or untypical I am as an IMatch User.

I'll open a new thread in Off Topic about the bad news - as I see it - implied by that top-left Platform pie chart that shows the ratio of Windows 10 users versus Windows 7 users.

Some more charts (I create them as I go):

Note: This is for the past 48 hours.

Bold is the average, in () is the maximum.

60,000+ categories is quite a lot!
I assume that the 500,000 files database is also the one with the 15 GB footprint. I can find out if I need to, by hand.

Damn. I've actually missed the day when I reached the 20,000 posts count...

Indeed, like Colin wrote, VERY interesting.
For example, if my IMatch-system would be in some points totally against all other, then I would begin to think about this and maybe try to change.
Hence such informations are really important, also for us.

For example, I have 13,7 GB of DB, but only about 260'000 images, compared to the 14 GB and 497'000 files (if this is this one), so my size is quite big.
But at the moment this does not make me anxious.  8)

I wonder, if you also can see the time for searching and what kind of searching.
This would be also interesting, like other stuff.

Thanks, Mario, for your information.
Best wishes from Switzerland! :-)

Hi:
In the language settings where does the "en" fits?
I think I am the only Portuguese...
Thanks,
JRosa

I think I track average search speeds (File Window Search Bar), but I of course don't track what users are searching for. This is private data.

I think "en" must be "English (United States)".
QuoteI think I am the only Portuguese...
... or maybe the only one using IMatch with Portuges language setting (of the tiny share of users that participate at telemetry at all at the moment).
For example, I am German, but I use IMatch with language setting English (United States). It is more convenient for me, just because this forum and the IMatch help are also in English.

Remember that these stats are only after two days! Most users have not yet updated to 2018.11.2 so we have no real numbers yet. This will take at least six to twelve weeks.

Of course, but that is also interesting enough.  ;D

Me too, I am Swiss, but use the English Setting, don't ask English or USA, once choosed and that's it  ;D

"en" is the default (English US) language for IMatch.

Maybe I can someday implement auto-translation for IMatch. The framework I have written for IMatch Apps already supports machine translation, to help Mees and Josè with the grunt work (the only users who help with translating IMatch into other languages - thanks guys!).

I have plans to transplant that translation framework into IMatch so we have the same friendly translation technology via the App Translator for apps as well as IMatch. And then I could use automatic translation to translate IMatch into other languages. This will not be 100% correct, but still may help users who don't speak English, German, Dutch or Portuguese.

On the other hand, this may be futile because the largest user base for IMatch is in English-speaking countries anyway. I get requests for localized (translated) versions very, very rarely (maybe 5 times a year).

On the third hand ;-) if the translation framework switch has been done, translating / updating the translations costs me a few dollars per month (thanks to machine translation) any may still be worth it. I like the DeepL translation (https://www.deepl.com/de/translator) service a lot (German product). Check it out, its really good.

Thanks Mario for disclosing the statistics. I would be happy if one or the other statistic would be disclosed in the future. Also I have agreed to use the data.

What I read from it is, I would not have thought that the German portion lies with approx. 30%. That makes me positive and lets hope that more users are from my area. Which again can bring a better exchange of information and ideas. Here again a hint concerning the user meeting ;-)

Also the link to www.deepl.com is awesome.

Keep it up Mario.
and a big THANK YOU for a great program!

QuoteMost users have not yet updated to 2018.11.2 ......

I am actually performing a test: I am waiting to see when Imatch will tell me there is a new version
and give me the chance to update. Then I can test this upgrading and report if there are hick-ups or failures.

Mario

The default update check is once per week. See Edit > Preferences > Application: Update...
If you have disabled this check, IMatch will perform a mandatory update check every 30 days.
