Dimensions in thumbs can be way different than actual image

In thumbs my raw .ORF files are shown as 3200 x 2400.  DXO photolab gives dimensions of these raw files as 5184x3888 px. The metadata panel gives the dimensions as 5240x3912. I can appreciate that sensor size vs image size might be slightly different, but 3200x2400 isn't close. Upon closer inspection I noticed smaller differences with other raw file types. I couldn't find a thumbs panel layout setting to show raw file size dimensions in the dimensions seen by image editors. Can you help me better understand this situation?

Mario

The size shown in thumbnails is the size IMatch has received from the WIC codec.
Run a WIC diagnosis on one of your files and show us the results.

Thanks Mario.

I downloaded the latest FastPictureViewer version to make sure it was installed properly and up to date. Sure enough, here's the relevant output from WIC diagnostics:

WIC: Testing file 'Z:\Pictures\Photo Library\2018\2018-05\2018-05-09\Paint-Labels-004455.ORF'
Thumbnail: Codec 'Olympus Raw Decoder (FastPictureViewer Codec Pack)'
(GetThumbnail failed (88982F44 The bitmap codec does not support a thumbnail.).) 0x0 pixel in 0 ms.
Preview: Codec 'Olympus Raw Decoder (FastPictureViewer Codec Pack)'
(GetPreview failed (88982F81 The operation is unsupported.).) 0x0 pixel in 0 ms.
Full resolution: Codec 'Olympus Raw Decoder (FastPictureViewer Codec Pack)'
      () 3200x2400 pixel in 0 ms.

The only Olympus links I could find were to older codecs, 2009, so I will leave it be. Now I understand what's going on.

The WIC codec reports the file as 3200 x 2400 pixel and this is what IMatch will show.

Have you perhaps configured the FPC codec to always extract a preview?
You can check this in the Windows control panel. Search for Fast there, then open the FastPictureViewer codedc pack options:

If this is off, then the codec does not understand your RAW format. Which can happen, with all the different RAW formats camera vendors push out.
Olympus is responsible for providing you with a proper and working WIC codec.
If they don't deliver, they provide lousy customer support. They have your money now, but maybe not get any more in the future...

Note: You need to to a forced update of the files (select, press Shift+Ctrl+F5) you analyze after each change to the WIC codec or settings. IMatch does not rescan files automatically.

Maybe uninstall the FPV codecs and see if the Windows codecs handle the file?
Or disable WIC usage in IMatch globally and switch the the LibRAW processing under Edit > Preferences > Application.

I tried all of the above with no luck. I will contact Olympus and see if they can help with a WIC codec.

Mario

Did you have the force preview enabled in FPV?
If yes, did you do a forced update (or re-run the WIC diagnosis afterwards)?
You can also try to uninstall the FPV codecs and try only with the built-in WIC codecs in Windows 10.

Yes, force preview was enabled in FPV.
Yes, Tried the built in WIC codecs in Windows 10 without the FPV codecs.
This really is a minor annotation issue, as I know what the raw file dimensions should be and the thumbnail is displayed. I have submitted requests to both Olympus and FastPictureViewer for assistance. When there's more information I will share it here.
