iMatch 2020 closes when doing face recognition

Just upgraded to iMatch 2020. My database contains around 130k pictures. I am running the face recognition. A lot of work for the computer, but he is doing well so far. But iMatch closed obviously for no reason and without any error message, it just disappeared. That happened now 4 times so far.

Is this just a way to protect the hardware? :-)

Are you running it over the whole 130,000 at once? Try batching them up.
Have you backed up your photos today?

Jingo

Batching it most certainly the best way to go... if you do it all at once, and then you start defining people, the software will then need to go through all 130k photos each time to update the faces and try to correct the matches.  Best to do it in groups, defining and setting up people as you go.  That way, the system learns and hopefully gets more future checks correct the first time.

Please see How to Report Bugs for some info about what information to provide when you experience a problem or a crash in IMatch.
The log file of the IMatch session where this problem happened is the minimum we need.

Also, when IMatch crashes, it produces a DUMP file (see https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#im_dumpfile.htm) with information about the crash.
Note that Windows may need several minutes to produce the file. But you'll get the error message before and the notification when the DUMP file has been created.
If this does not show, the crash happened outside of IMatch, in a driver or hardware component.

Running a PC for long periods under almost 100% load will reveal all weaknesses and potential issues with stability. Workstation-grade computers can usually handle this. If you use a customer PC or even a notebook. processing 130,000 files will cause problems. See Controlling Computer Utilization in the People help topic, unless you have read that info already.

As the other posters outlined, processing 130,000 files in one go is a very bad idea.
Did you read the People help topic yet?

It explains, actually stresses, the point that you should process faces in batches.
If you create 130,000 unassigned faces and IMatch has to search 130,000 faces for matches every time you assign a person to a face or confirm a person, you will certainly have no fun with face recognition. Better process your files in batches, create persons as needed, assign and confirm.

OK, I already learned that doing it in one go is a no-go. So I stopped it for a while and do it in smaller batches. But I experienced another problem. I will try to write about it in the bug section.

I don't know how to move this talk to the bugs report area.

As suggested stopped the queue and just started the face recognition for some folders with in total of around 33,000 pictures. After a while, the program just closed with no warning.

Attached the log files it created after closing.

Mario

Normal users cannot move thread.
Why don't you just open a bug report?

The log file shows no errors. Just massive activity, IMatch processing many files to extract faces.
Then the log stops dead in the middle.

Do you get the error message shown here:

https://www.photools.com/help/imatch/#im_dumpfile.htm

If not, this problem is caused by something external. A driver. Virus checker. Shell extension. WIC codec. Nothing IMatch has control over.
Probably a stress issue.
Try to process 1000 files. If this fails, try 500.
Maybe reduce the stress by configuring IMatch to use less parallel threads. This is explained in the People help topic:

No window showing up regarding crash handling or dump file information. Program just closes. When reopening again, it says that the program was closed. I try to get a screenshot the next time it happens.

Mario

No DUMP file message => external cause outside the control of IMatch. Stress issue or crappy driver, codec, virus checker. Nothing I can analyze, fix or do.
Follow my advice about reducing stress on your computer.
