This little app allows you to verify the integrity of files.
The File Verifier app calculates a checksum of the selected files from the file data on disk. It then compares this checksum with the checksum of the files stored in the IMatch database. This checksum is calculated by IMatch when it indexes or rescans a file.
Under normal circumstances, there should be no difference. If File Verifier detects a discrepancy, there are two typical reasons:
In both cases, you have to verify the file manually. Open it in the associated application and see if there are any error messages. If required, restore the file from backup.
If you have verified that the file is OK, you can trigger a forced rescan in IMatch. This updates the checksum and other file data in the database. The verification then runs through without an error.
To perform a forced rescan, select the file in a File Window and press Shift+Ctrl+F5, or use the corresponding command from the context menu. In the dialog, select Force Update.
