The IMatch Clipboard

What It Does

The IMatch clipboard allows you to temporarily collect files from different folders, categories, collections or timeline nodes in the clipboard panel. You can then move, copy, assign or add them to other folders, categories, collections or open them in a Result Window.

When cleaning up image collections, you'll often face the challenge to move files from different folders into one folder. Or you need to combine selected files from multiple categories into a new or existing category. IMatch offers several features for that, from using the Windows clipboard to drag & drop.
See File Management for more information.

If the IMatch Clipboard panel is not visible, you can open it from the View > Panels menu or with the keyboard shortcut F9,B

Using the IMatch Clipboard

The IMatch Clipboard panel offers an easy and visual way to (temporarily) collect and combine files from different folders or categories. To add more files to the clipboard, just drag and drop them from any File Window into the clipboard panel. The clipboard can handle a large number of files.

The clipboard keeps the files even when you close the database. This allows you to safekeep a set of files between IMatch runs.

User Interface

Scrolling

If you add more images to the clipboard than can fit inside the panel, the clipboard displays a scroll bar below the images:

Image Size

You control the height of the images in the clipboard with the zoom slider at the bottom. This allows you to fit the images to the panel size you have chosen and to adapt to various screen resolutions and display sizes.

Commands

After one or more files were added to the IMatch Clipboard, it offers a number of commands to apply to these files. The available commands depend on the current View. The number and style of command buttons in the Clipboard Panel changes accordingly.

Select

This command selects all files in the IMatch Clipboard in the active File Window. You can use this to remember a selection or to transfer a selection to another File Window or scope.

To remember a selection, drop the selected files into the Clipboard. To restore the selection at some later time, click on the Select button. To transfer a selection from one File Window to another start by adding the files you want to select elsewhere to the IMatch Clipboard. Then switch to the other context (folder, category, ...) and click on the Select button. IMatch selects all files in the IMatch Clipboard in the current File Window.

Combining Selections

Hold down Ctrl while clicking this button to add the files in the IMatch clipboard to the existing selection in the File Window. This also retains the focused file.

One use for this is i.e. a situation where you create stacks or version sets from files spread all over the current scope in the File Window. Drop the files into the IMatch Clipboard as you find them and when done, select the master or stack top in the File Window and hold down Ctrl and click on the Select button. This selects the files in the File Window but keeps the focused master / stack top. Now you can stack the files or create a version.

Quick Filter

Add a selection of files to the IMatch Clipboard and then click on the Filter button. The active File Window now only shows files which are also in the IMatch Clipboard.

This can be very helpful if you want to transfer a selection e.g. between folders or categories. Or if you want to compare contents of folders or categories.

Copy/Move

These commands make it easy to copy/move files from different folders into one common folder. You first add all files you want to process to the IMatch Clipboard. Then switch to the folder you want to copy/move the files to and click on the Copy or Move button.

You can achieve a similar result by copying the files into the Windows clipboard using Ctrl+C (or Ctrl+X for move) and then Ctrl+V to copy/move them into another folder or to assign them to another category. See File Management for more information.

Assign

Use this to assign all files currently in the IMatch Clipboard to one or more categories. Very helpful when you want to combine files from different folders/categories/selection and assign them together to one or more categories.

Add

This command adds all files in the IMatch Clipboard to the currently selected collection in the Collection View. Note that only manual collections like bookmarks or flags can be modified by the user.

Result Window

This command opens the files currenly in the IMatch Clipboard in a new Result Window.

Drag and Drop

You can drag individual files from the clipboard into a folder or file window. Hold down Ctrl to copy, else the file is moved.

Press ESC to abort the drag.
