Got some new gear? Switched PC's? This topic explains how you can re-install IMatch on your new PC and how you move over your database and settings.
Download the latest version of IMatch from the photools.com customer portal and install it on your new PC.
On your old PC, run IMatch Pack & Go to create a package containing your database(s), settings, presets and other files.
Run Pack & Go on the new PC and restore the package. This brings the database and all other settings back.
Pack & Go restores files and folders to the same folders as before.
If you want to store the database in a different folder, move it afterwards as needed. See Pack & Go for details.
Make sure you store the database file in a folder that is not indexed by IMatch.
See Database Configuration for more information.
If you don't want to use Pack & Go, you can manually copy your databases and settings to the new PC.
The most important folder is the config
folder. It contains the settings database and other files that contain app settings, the Pack & Go configuration etc.
Assuming the default locations, copy the folder:
C:\ProgramData\photools.com\IMatchN\config
to the new computer, into the same location. The N stands for the IMatch generation you are using. At the time of writing, this is 6.
The folder names of the config and Presets folders are shown in Edit > Preferences > Application dialog, near the top.
Older IMatch versions used a versioned settings file name, e.g. imatch5.pts
, newer versions use imatch.pts
.
Verify under Edit > Preferences > Application: Settings database filename that the correct settings database (the one you've copied) is used.
If you have saved custom presets (Batch Processor Presets, Metadata Panel Layouts, ...), you need to copy them from the Presets folder to the new PC (into the same folder):
C:\ProgramData\photools.com\IMatchN\Presets
Open the User Data folder by typing the following string into Windows Explorer address bar:
%APPDATA%\photools.com\IMatchN
This folder contains user-specific files, like Design & Print templates, your spell checker dictionary, your custom annotations etc.
Copy the contents of this folder into the same location on the new PC. Note: The folder name will be different on the new PC when you use a different user name. When you open it by opening
%APPDATA%\photools.com\IMatchN
in Windows Explorer, it will be correct. The N stands for the IMatch generation you are using. At the time of writing, this is 6.
If you use a different Windows user names (log-in name) on the new computer, your personal settings will initially be unavailable. IMatch links per-user settings to the Windows user name. If you used "Tom" on the old PC but "Peter" or your Microsoft account on the new PC, IMatch will be unable to find your old personal settings.
To solve this problem, setup a user name alias on the new PC. This alias tells IMatch which user name to use on the new PC. Just enter your old user name.
See Application Settings: User name alias for more information.
If you also move your images to the new PC, IMatch will initially mark them as off-line. This is because IMatch considers the drive serial number when it stores information about folders. And the drive in the new computer has a different serial number.
To tell IMatch that you have moved your files to a new disk, you need to run the relocate command for the disk in the Media & Folders View. This tells IMatch that the files have moved and it updates the database with the new disk serial number.
For example, image the images were stored on drive C:
on the old PC and are also stored on drive C:
on the new computer, you only have to relocate from C:
to C:
once.
See Off-line Folders and Files for instructions and more information.
